Before
becoming a massage therapist, I worked as a registered nurse for fourteen
years. I worked in a number of different areas, such as post-surgical
cardiac surgery, orthopedics, and rehab at Methodist Hospital in Houston,
experimental oncology at MD Anderson, followed by pediatric and neonatal
here in Austin. I also worked on a number of private cases caring for
terminally ill cancer patients.
Working privately with a particular patient who required extensive rehabilitation
opened my eyes to the dramatic results I helped him achieve in his recovery
due to the massages I administered. My experience with this patient affected
me profoundly and I then enrolled in Lauterstein-Conway Massage School.
A few years later I enrolled in semester two at Lauterstein-Conway. In
addition, I have taken a cranio sacral workshop and a neuromuscular and
trigger point therapy workshop.
I
am very interested in myofascial release techniques. I meet with another
therapist weekly and we practice different techniques on each other. We
brainstorm and invent our own strokes. We try anything, have lots of laughs
and continue to learn more.
My
medical background has enhanced my ability as a massage therapist, not
only in the knowledge I gained about the human body but in working with
a multitude of extremely diverse and interesting people! |
